Sunrise Reveals the Future of Mecha Anime with Kyoukai Senki
SUNRISE BEYOND is a new group that combines the powers of Bandai Spirits and Sunrise, so it's only natural that one of their first major endeavors involves giant robots. Kyoukai Senki has been revealed as a new mecha TV anime that's due out this fall, and the first trailer is here to show us what the world is dealing with in 2061. Hey, that's just 40 years away!
Meet the main characters of the anime along with the mobile weapons known as AMAIM in the video below.
Synopsis (via Crunchyroll):
In 2061 AD, Japan is dominated. Divided and ruled by the four major economic blocs of the world, the Japanese people spent their days oppressed as subjugated citizens. Japan became the front line of the world where AMAIM, a human-type special mobile weapon deployed by each economic zone, strode about.. One day, Amou Shiiba, a boy who loves machines, meets i-LeS (autonomous thinking AI) named "Gai," and this leads him to throw himself into the battle to reclaim Japan, by piloting the AMAIM "Kenbu" built by himself.
The main mechanical designer group is KEN OKUYAMA DESIGN, led by world-renowned industrial designer Kiyoyuki Okuyama. Naturally, an HG 1/72 Kenbu plastic model kit is already in the works and due out from Bandai Spirits this fall.
The Kyoukai Senki anime is being directed by Nobuyoshi Habara (Space Battleship Yamato 2202), with Noboru Kimura (Gundam Build Divers) on series composition and Kenichi Onuki (Metal Armor Dragonar) on character designs. Individual mechanical designers working under the supervision of Okuyama include Yuya Koyanagi, Kanetake Ebigawa, Kenji Teraoka, and Ippei Gyoubu.
