Mamoru Hosoda Unveils Teaser for His Next Anime Movie: Belle
The first teaser trailer and poster art for Mamoru Hosoda’s next anime movie Belle has just appeared online, and the results look pretty spectacular.
Hosoda is one of the biggest talents in theatrical anime today who has previously delivered such titles as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Sumer Wars, Wolf Children, and The Boy and the Beast. With his last movie, Mirai (2018), debuting at Cannes and receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, the expectations for what he might come up with next are high.
Based on the teaser below, Belle looks like it might be a return to the drama and spectacle of Summer Wars with a combination of daily life and virtual worlds colliding. But take a look for yourself!
According to Variety, who got the exclusive for the new teaser trailer:
“Belle” follows Suzu, a 17-year-old high school student living in a rural village with her father. For years she has only been a shadow of herself. One day, Suzu enters “U,” a virtual world of five billion online members, and she becomes Belle, a world-famous singer. Belle soon meets with a mysterious creature with whom she embarks on a journey of adventures and love in their quest of becoming who they truly are.
Belle has been slated for a Summer 2021 release in Japan, and it's safe to assume a global release is forthcoming soon after. In the meantime, here's the Japanese poster.
