The Big G's Final Design Revealed for Godzilla Singular Point Anime
It’s always a special day when a new Godzilla design is revealed. This again proved to be the case when Toho Studios shared the first full body reveal of the Big G as he's set to appear in Godzilla Singular Point yesterday.
Set to be a mix of traditional 2D and 3D cgi animation, Godzilla Singular Point is set to debut globally on Netflix this April and features some heavyweight talent behind it, including studio bones (My Hero Academia) and studio orange (Beastars, Land of the Lustrous). The task of redesigning Godzilla for Singular Point fell to Eiji Yamamori a veteran of such Studio Ghibli films as Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.
According to the Bloody Disgusting website, Yamaori said his intent was to “keep in mind the original design motif and give it dignity as an awe-inspiring creature that can never communicate with humankind.” Also, to “integrate the image of the early Showa Godzilla, yet see a new first appearance.”
Reaction from Godzilla fans so far has been mixed, with some digging the redesign and others just typing the word “thicc" and leaving it at that.
Here’s the official synopsis for Godzilla Singular Point along with the latest trailer.
