Tokyo Babylon 2021 Anime Canceled Over Plagiarism Concerns
This year was to mark a new beginning for CLAMP's Tokyo Babylon series, with a new anime in the works at studio GoHands. Unfortunately, the production has been marred with issues, with concerns of plagiarism chief among them. The production committee recently followed up on some plagiarized character costume designs, and the resulting investigation turned up enough additional evidence to cause them to cancel the current production of Tokyo Babylon 2021 completely.
According to a statement from the committee, the investigation ultimately led to the discovery of more plagiarism. As a result, the committee lost all faith in the production, forcing them to put an end to it. The series was originally set to premiere this April, but the plagiarism charges that started all of this—stemming from staff members referencing existing costume designs without permission—caused a delay.
While this may spell the end for the Tokyo Babylon 2021 anime as we know it, it's not completely over. CLAMP and the production committee are working hard to kick off a brand new production as soon as it can be arranged.
