Watch the New Trailer for Mamoru Hosoda's Belle!
The first trailer for Belle, director Mamoru Hosoda’s hotly anticipated follow-up to his Oscar nominated anime film Mirai, has arrived!
Belle is Hosoda’s 9th feature as a director and, based on the video below, looks to be returning to the computer world settings of his earlier works like Digimon Adventures: Our War Game! and Summer Wars.
Variety, who broke the trailer earlier today, has more info on the creative staff for Belle, which includes Jin Kim, the character designer for Disney films such as Frozen and Moana. British architect and designer Eric Wong has helped to design the digital world of U where the story takes place.
Here's some of Jin Kim's character design work on Belle
Right now, there’s no firm release date for Belle, but it looks set to come out sometime in summer 2021. In the meantime, here's Variety's synopsis for the film along with the first poster.
Mixing reality and fantasy, “Belle” follows Suzu, a 17-year-old high school student living in a rural village with her father. For years she has only been a shadow of herself. One day, she enters “U,” a virtual world of 5 billion members on the Internet. There, she is not Suzu anymore but Belle, a world-famous singer. She soon meets with a mysterious creature. Together, they embark on a journey of adventures, challenges and love, in their quest of becoming who they truly are.
