WIT Studio Reveals The Girl from the Other Side Anime Adaptation

WIT Studio—known for titles like the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, the Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress anime, and much more—has a new project in the works, and this one is a feature-length OAD (original animation DVD). Along with the final chapter of Nagabe's award-nominated The Girl from the Other Side manga series came the announcement that WIT will be adapting it, with a Kickstarter planned to help fund the project.

While they work on setting that up, a teaser trailer is here along with a key visual and info on the main cast and staff. Directors Yutaro Kubo and Satomi Tani previously animated a 10-minute OAD that was bundled with the eighth volume of the manga back in September of 2019, and now they're returning to the series to direct and work on the character designs and screenplay for the full-length version.

Additional staff members include Yusuke Takeda as art director, Takeru Yokoi as director of photography, Akari Saito as editor, and Schroeder-Headz on music, with Flying Dog handling music production.

The Kickstarter campaign aims to help improve the animation quality and increase the promotional budget. It will go live on March 10 and run until May 9 with a goal of 3 million yen (about US$27,837).

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the series in English and describes it like so:

In a world split between the Inside and the Outside, those living in both realms are told never to cross over to the other side, lest they be cursed. A young girl named Shiva lives on the other side, in a vacant village with a demonic guardian known only as “Teacher.” Although the two are forbidden to touch, they seem to share a bond that transcends their disparate appearances. But when Shiva leaves Teacher’s care to seek out her grandmother, the secret behind her mysterious living arrangement comes to light.

As of right now, WIT Studio has The Girl from the Other Side set for a March 10, 2022 release with a special extra edition of the manga.
